Whatever your feelings on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and whatever your thoughts on the recent assassination of Hamas spiritual leader Ahmed Yassin, you've got to admit that the Bush Administration has fumbled yet again.
So first, Condi Rice says that everyone in the Middle East just needs to be calm, and then a State Dept. spokesperson says that the White House is "deeply troubled." Then, and this is truly the best, an "administration official" says, "When you see thousands of people all over the Arab world coming out into the streets, it's hard to ignore that." Now, doesn't that seem strange. A Bush Administration official saying that public opinion in the Arab World is so important that it neccisitates a change in the White House position on Israeli targeted assasinations. The Arab street wasn't so hard to ignore when Bush wanted to go to war. And I suspect that it wouldn't matter one bit if every single Arab in the Middle East called for the United States to stop hunting Osama Bin Laden. But when they're angry about Israel...
